Infringement of Rape Victims Privacy

Posted by warriorsjapan on August 8, 2009 at 1:59 AM Comments comments (0)

On July 16th, 2009, the Tokyo Supreme Court handed out

the decision that the Kanagawa Police did nothing wrong or against the law in their most disgraceful, second-rape treatment towards me when I went immediately to them for help when I was raped in April,2002 by a U.S. serviceman - Bloke Deans.

This decision was given to the media and neither myself nor my legal team knew nothing about it till I heard from a journalist/ T.V. producer,  asking for my comments for a press release. I do

believe that disclosing details to media before informing the rape

victim such as myself, was an infringement of my human rights and privacy. The justice system here in Japan states that the privacy of rape victims is always upheld seems to not ring true.

Nevertheless. I am not going to give up with my pursuit for justice

and I thank all of the people that have stood by me and for their never ending support.

The non existence of a 24 hour rape crisis center and rape test kits not readily available throughout Japan, banning of re-enactment protocol photographs of the entire rape act with the victim, has also been something that I felt needed dramatically changing.

My vision for the first 24 hour rape crisis center in Japan, still remains strong as I have been holding onto this vision since 2002 as a volunteer advocate and as the founder of Warriors Japan. (Women Against Rape in Japan).

As of August 2009, Warriors Japan now has 10 volunteers.

We are also urgently seeking not only volunteers but sponsors, web assistance, translators and office equipment and office space.

Please contact me at [email protected] if you would also like to be a part of helping establishing a safe community for us all here in Japan.

I currently have a legal team of 40 lawyers and will update as soon as I know concrete details of our next step.

Giving up - is not in my vocabulary.   - Jane-
